Houston Eyelid Surgery or Houston Blepharoplasty

Do you appear tired, or have heavy bags under your eyes? As we age and gravity takes its toll, skin and fat around our eyes begin to sag, giving a false appearance of how you truly feel.

A blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, and gives a rejuvenated appearance to your eyes, making you look more rested and alert. This may also be combined with a brow lift if indicated.  Dr. Bidros uses techniques to achieve a natural look and avoid an operated-appearance or hollow eyes.

Specifically, eyelid surgery can treat:

  • Loose and sagging skin that creates heavy folds of the upper eyelid.
  • Loose fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelids.
  • Bags under the eyes.
  • Droopiness, or excess  skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelids

These are commonly performed procedure and have profound impact. The eyes display your age most readily, and when rejuvenated, can significantly improve your appearance. That is why we see celebrities such as George Clooney go for this procedure first. The upper eyelid surgery is relatively straight forward. The lower eyelid surgery is considered one of the most challenging in Plastic Surgery. You should consider a surgeon who is well qualified in this area.

Asian Eyelid Surgery or double eyelid surgery for Asians is another popular procedure. It’s no longer considered a “Westernizing” procedure. Current techniques attempt to “open up” the eyes and create a second fold, while maintaining the ethnic identity.

Blepharoplasty, or Eyelid Surgery Procedural Steps:

ANESTHESIA

The choices include local, intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia. Dr. Bidros will recommend the best choice for you after the consultation.

THE EYELID SURGERY

The incision lines for eyelid surgery are designed for scars to be well concealed.
For the upper lid, excess skin is removed and bulging fat is contoured. For the lower lids, things are slightly more complex and different techniques are used depending on the individual. Dr. Bidros will take in consideration the amount of skin laxity, amount of fat bulge, the strength of the lower lid, and the position of the cheek bone and eye itself. Dr. Bidros may perform an additional supporting procedure for the lower lid.  For eyelid surgery for Asians, please refer to that section.

RESULTS

The results of eyelid surgery will appear gradually as swelling and bruising subsides - revealing an improved upper face and a more alert and rejuvenated appearance.

YOUR RECOVERY

After your procedure is completed, lubricating ointment and cold compresses may be applied. You will be taken into a recovery area where you will continue to be closely monitored. Your vision will be blurry as a result of ointment used to soothe and protect the eye during surgery as well as from the swelling that is normal. You likely be permitted to go home after a few hours.
